According to the officials, the truck(lorry) was also speeding.
“I can confirm that 53 people have died in the accident,” Harry Kalaba, an official in the vice president’s office, told AFP from the crash site . “There was serious speeding by all the vehicles involved” he added.
The bus, which is owned by Zambia Postal Service , had been taking passengers from the Copperbelt mining province to Lusaka.
While closing in on its final destination the bus had been trying to swerve to avoid another oncoming vehicle, survivor Ackim Shawa told AFP from his hospital bed.
Survivors with serious injuries were taken to Lusaka. About 22 others were being treated in a nearby missionary hospital, where they lay crying, dazed or unconscious
Driver must be severely warned against speeding and overtaking unless a driver in front gives a go ahead to overtake otherwise we shall continue to lose precious lives and manpower due to unrully drivers. PRAYER IS THE ANSWER TO ALL THIS.
