BUS ACCIDENT KILLS 53 PE0PLE IN ZAMBIA


Fifty-three people were killed in a head on collision between a fast travelling bus and a truck on the Great North Road in Zambia on Thursday. According to Zambian the government, this was one of the country’s worst-ever traffic accidents.
Among the dead, fifty-one people were from the bus, while the truck driver and his assistant were also killed.

The accident occurred in Chibombo district, when a high-speeding bus carrying 73 passengers collided with an oncoming truck, leaving a horrifying wreckage, with bloodied bodies all over the place on the road, north of Lusaka.
According to the officials, the truck(lorry) was also speeding.

“I can confirm that 53 people have died in the accident,” Harry Kalaba, an official in the vice president’s office, told AFP from the crash site . “There was serious speeding by all the vehicles involved” he added.

The bus, which is owned by Zambia Postal Service , had been taking passengers from the Copperbelt mining province to Lusaka.

While closing in on its final destination the bus had been trying to swerve to avoid another oncoming vehicle, survivor Ackim Shawa told AFP from his hospital bed.

Survivors with serious injuries were taken to Lusaka. About 22 others were being treated in a nearby missionary hospital, where they lay crying, dazed or unconscious

  1. Driver must be severely warned against speeding and overtaking unless a driver in front gives a go ahead to overtake otherwise we shall continue to lose precious lives and manpower due to unrully drivers. PRAYER IS THE ANSWER TO ALL THIS.
